Use the FlexNet License Server Manager to activate the shared licenses on your installed Floating License Server.
Before you begin, you need: a running Floating License Server, the License Server Manager, administrator credentials, and a valid 32-character Activation ID for each license.
Step 1: Open the License Server Manager
- Search for FlexNet License Server Manager in the Windows search bar and open it.
- Confirm it connects to your Floating License Server. (If it isn't installed, return to Step 1: Install the Floating License Server.
Step 2: Activate the licenses
When you perform administrative actions, such as activating licenses, you may be prompted to sign in. Unless already changed, the default credentials are:

Choose the path that matches your server:
- Online — the server has internet access.
- Offline — the server has no internet access.
Activate online
- In the License Server Manager, go to Back Office Operations → Online Server Updates.
- Enter:
- Activation ID — the 32-character code for the license;
- Count — the number of licenses to activate.
- To activate another Activation ID, select (+) and enter its details.
- Select Activate.
- If prompted, enter your administrator credentials.
A confirmation appears when activation is complete.
If online activation fails, times out, or reports a certificate error, see Online activation cannot connect, or use the offline path instead.
Activate offline
On the server:
- In the License Server Manager, go to Back Office Operations → Offline Server Updates.
- Under Generate Offline Request, enter the Activation ID and the Count.
- Select Download to save the request as a
.binfile.
On a computer with internet access:
- Open the Materialise End-User Portal → Offline License (De)activation.
- Under Upload type, select Generate license or confirm license reduction or return, upload the
.binrequest file, then download the response file and transfer it back to the server.
Back on the server:
- Return to Back Office Operations → Offline Server Updates → Choose File → select the response file → Upload.
- The server processes the response and adds the licenses.
Step 3: Verify the activation
Go to Features in the License Server Manager and confirm the licenses you just activated are listed. If they appear, activation succeeded.
You can also use these sections at any time to check usage:
- Features — available licenses and how many are currently in use.
- Devices — recognized workstations and the licenses currently assigned to them.
This is an overview of current usage and recognized devices, not a full historical connection report.
