Activate licenses on the Floating License Server

Use the FlexNet License Server Manager to activate the shared licenses on your installed Floating License Server.

Before you begin, you need: a running Floating License Server, the License Server Manager, a valid 32-character Activation ID for each license, and License Server Manager administrator credentials.

Unless already changed, the default credentials are:
User Name: admin
Password: Adm1nistrator!


Step 1: Open the License Server Manager

  1. Search for FlexNet License Server Manager in the Windows search bar and open it.
  2. Confirm it connects to your Floating License Server. (If it isn't installed, return to Step 1: Install the Floating License Server.

Step 2: Activate the licenses

Choose the path that matches your server:

  • Online — the server has internet access.
  • Offline — the server has no internet access.

Activate online

  1. In the License Server Manager, go to Back Office OperationsOnline Server Updates.
  2. Enter:
    • Activation ID — the 32-character code for the license;
    • Count — the number of licenses to activate.
  3. To activate another Activation ID, select (+) and enter its details.
  4. Select Activate.
  5. If prompted, sign in with the administrator credentials listed above.

A confirmation appears when activation is complete.

Done — the licenses are activated on the Floating License Server.

If online activation fails, times out, or reports a certificate error, see Online activation cannot connect, or use the offline path instead.

 
 

Activate offline

You'll move two files between the License Server and an internet-connected device, for example using a USB stick.

Before you begin: You need access to the Materialise End-User Portal on an internet-connected device. Don't have portal access? Ask your organization's license administrator, or see About the Materialise End-User Portal.

On the License Server:

  1. In the License Server Manager, go to Back Office OperationsOffline Server Updates.
  2. Under Generate Offline Request, enter the Activation ID and the Count.
  3. Select Download to save the request as a .bin file.
  4. If prompted, sign in with the administrator credentials listed above.

On a device with internet access:

  1. Sign in to the Materialise End-User Portal.
  2. Select Offline License (De)activation.
  3. Under Upload type, select Generate license or confirm license reduction or return.
  4. Upload the .bin request file.
  5. Download the generated response file and transfer it back to the License Server.

Back on the License Server:

  1. Return to Back Office OperationsOffline Server Updates.
  2. Select Choose File, select the response file, then select Upload.
  3. If prompted, sign in with the administrator credentials listed above.
  4. The License Server processes the response and adds the licenses.

Done — the licenses are activated on the Floating License Server.

 
 

Step 3: Verify the activation

Go to Features in the License Server Manager and confirm the licenses you just activated are listed. If they appear, activation succeeded.

You can also use these sections at any time to check usage:

  • Features — available licenses and how many are currently in use.
  • Devices — recognized workstations and the licenses currently assigned to them.

This is an overview of current usage and recognized devices, not a full historical connection report.
