Users and Roles
This page explains how to invite and remove users, and how to assign roles in CO-AM. These actions require organization-level admin permissions.
Users
Inviting Users
As an organization-level admin, you can invite new users directly from within CO-AM.
Steps
- Navigate to User Management via Settings (top-right).
- Click + Invite New User.
- Enter the email addresses of the invitees.
- Select the user and admin roles to assign to the invitees.
- Click + Send Invite.
Note: Open and expired invitations are shown in the Invitations tab.
Removing Users
As an organization-level admin, you can remove users from your organization.
Steps
- Navigate to User Management via Settings (top-right).
- Find and select the user in the list.
- Click Delete User.
- Confirm the deletion by typing the full name of the user.
Note: This removes the user from this organization only.
Roles
Roles control what you can do in an organization — view, modify, or administer.
Assigning and Unassigning Roles
As an organization-level admin, you can assign and unassign roles for users.
Steps
- Navigate to User Management via Settings (top-right).
- Find and select the user in the list.
- Add or remove roles as needed.
Note: CO-AM roles and their permissions are managed by Materialise and are common across all CO-AM organizations.
Machines and Machine Models (shop floor connectivity)
Machine Models
Concept
A machine model is a standardized representation of a specific type or series of Additive Manufacturing (AM) machines with identical design, specifications, and performance characteristics. It serves as a template that defines the capabilities and constraints shared by all machines of that model.
Machine models are generally shared across tenants and managed by Materialise. You can also add machine models specific to your tenant.
How to access the machine model overview
Steps
- Go to Settings → Machine Models.
Notes:
- Viewing machine models requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Switch between tile and list view using the corresponding buttons on the right.
- Use the search bar to find a specific machine model.
How to add a machine model
Steps
- On the machine model overview page, select Create Machine Model.
- Fill in the required fields.
-
Select Create to confirm.
Notes
- Creating a machine model requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Creating a cross-tenant machine model requires additional permissions.
- Some parameters depend on the selected technology. These become visible when you select a technology.
How to edit a machine model
Steps
- In the list or tile view, click the machine model you want to update.
- Make the necessary changes.
-
Select Update to confirm, or Cancel to discard changes.
Notes
- Updating a machine model requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Updating a cross-tenant machine model requires additional permissions. This role is only assigned to Materialise admins.
- You cannot change the technology of a machine model after creation.
- Some changes are restricted when machines of this model have already been added.
How to delete a machine model
Steps
- In the list or tile view, click the machine model you want to delete.
- Select Delete.
-
Confirm or cancel the deletion.
Notes
- Deleting a machine model requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Deleting a cross-tenant machine model requires additional permissions. This role is only assigned to Materialise admins.
Machines
Concept
A machine refers to a specific AM machine on the shop floor. Its basic capabilities and constraints are defined by its machine model.
In a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) context, machines are considered workstations.
Machines are always specific to a tenant.
How to access the machine overview
Steps
-
Go to Settings → Machines.
Notes
- Viewing machines requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Switch between tile and list view using the corresponding buttons on the right.
- Use the search bar to find a specific machine.
How to add a machine
Steps
- On the machine overview page, select Create Machine.
- Select a machine model and proceed.
- Add the machine details.
-
Select Create to confirm.
Notes
- Creating a machine requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
-
Some machine parameters are inherited from the machine model and cannot be modified at the machine level. For example:
- No-build zones combine zones defined by the machine model and machine-specific zones.
- If applicable, gas flow, recoater, and scan fields are defined by the machine model.
How to edit a machine
Steps
- In the list or tile view, click the machine you want to update.
- Make the necessary changes.
-
Select Update to confirm, or Cancel to discard changes.
Notes
- Updating a machine requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
- Select Reset to restore the machine to its machine model defaults.
-
Some machine changes are restricted by the machine model. For example:
- Dimensions cannot exceed the machine model dimensions.
How to delete a machine
Steps
- In the list or tile view, click the machine you want to delete.
- Select Delete.
-
Confirm or cancel the deletion.
Notes
- Deleting a machine requires the correct permissions. Make sure the correct role is assigned.
